Every day brings a new tech headline.
Depending on what you read, rapidly advancing technologies will either save us or doom us all. They will eliminate swaths of jobs or make workers more important than ever. They will enable great leaps of discovery or lie convincingly. It would be a great page-turner, if we all weren’t trying to make rational decisions in the face of the maelstrom.
As usual, the truth of the matter is less dramatic. In August, Gartner declared that generative AI (GenAI) — the source of much of this year’s technological drama — is at the peak of the Hype Cycle’s inflated expectations. The potential is indeed amazing, but practical implementation is a different story.
